Behind Every Cup: The Story of Hacienda Doka

Discover the soul of our coffee

At Hacienda Doka, every cup represents far more than just exceptional coffee. It reflects our roots, our deep commitment to the earth, and the dedicated effort of the community that works alongside us. More than a beverage, we offer a living story—one of origin, quality, and purpose.

Single Estate Coffee: Traceability and Excellence

As a Single Estate farm, every step of our process happens right here at Hacienda Doka—from cultivation and harvest to drying and packaging. This complete in-house approach allows us to guarantee full traceability, ensuring that every bean reaching your cup has been crafted with care, transparency, and excellence.

Our Commitment at Every Stage:

  • Full Traceability: We maintain complete control over the entire process, with no intermediaries.

  • Responsible Farming: We follow sustainable practices that protect both the environment and biodiversity.

  • Authenticity in Every Bean: Our coffee offers pure, consistent flavor profiles that reflect the unique character of our region.

  • Community Support: We provide fair working conditions, wellness programs, and actively support local development initiatives.

Sustainability in Full Bloom

At Hacienda Doka, sustainability is not a one-time action—it’s an ongoing commitment. We are regenerating our land by planting over 200 native trees that nourish the landscape with food, shelter, and beauty. Each winter, we pledge to plant at least 100 more, including species such as Mountain Almond, Mahogany, Cacao, Cas, Yellow Corteza, Savannah Oak, Jacaranda, Guachipelín, Malay Apple, and Dama.

Our new dry mill reduces water consumption by up to 98% compared to traditional wet processing. In addition, we’ve adopted circular economy initiatives, such as using reusable plates for welcome coffee and partnering with Pedregal to transform recycled packaging into building materials.

Programs with Human and Environmental Impact

For the first time, we launched Casa de la Alegría—a childcare center for the children of our harvest workers. During the coffee season, this safe space provided 15 children with nourishing meals, playtime, and essential care.

Future Commitments

We’re in the final stages of achieving Rainforest Alliance certification, working diligently to enhance our sustainability practices and raise our standards even higher. We are also in the process of securing a national tourism interest declaration and proudly pursuing the Esencial Costa Rica country brand certification.

Looking ahead, we plan to launch a new barista training academy in partnership with local technical high schools, where we’ll support and mentor 10 young aspiring baristas.

Protecting Wildlife and Ecosystems

We’re thrilled to witness the return of the coffee finch, a natural indicator of the ecological balance we’re cultivating through reduced agrochemical use. We’ve also established responsible protocols for safely coexisting with local wildlife, including mammals, birds, snakes, and essential pollinators like bees.

Every Bean Tells a Story

Each cup of Hacienda Doka coffee is the result of a full, thoughtful cycle—one that begins in the earth, is nurtured by caring hands, and arrives in your cup with a flavor that speaks of tradition, craftsmanship, and respect for the environment.

We invite you to discover more about our coffee—and become part of our story.
